When I first started ceramics my mom mentioned in passing that my grandmother used to work at a small studio in England. Honiton Art Potteries. It wasn’t until a couple years ago that she emailed me this article from 1953. My grandfather has kept it all these years because that’s my grandmother in the lower right corner, working on souvenirs for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. I absolutely love this picture, there are so many times I sit down to work in the studio and think of it. I didn’t get to spend as much time as I would have liked with my Nanny, she passed when I was 13, but I’m so grateful to have this connection with her, that 65 years later I’m still sitting in the studio trying to paint these damn pots.
